How to Prep for your Injectable Visit
May 01, 2023If you have an upcoming injectable appointment with your dermatologist, it's time to get pumped (and plumped)! Injectables like dermal fillers can do wonders for your skin, but before you jump into the chair, there are a few things you should do to prepare.
In this week’s blog, I’ll be sharing some tips on how to get ready for your injectable appointment:
1) Research your injector
First things first, it's important to do your research on the injector who will be performing your injectable treatment. For the most comprehensive skin and aesthetic treatments, see a board-certified dermatologist who can suggest the best aesthetic treatment for your skin type, skin texture, and overall anatomy!
2) Share your medical history
Although you may be visiting your dermatologist for a cosmetic procedure, it's important to provide them with a detailed medical history, including any past surgeries, current medications, and allergies. Don't forget to mention over-the-counter supplements as these can increase your risk of bleeding. Supplements beginning with 'G' are common culprits- ginseng, ginkgo, garlic, and ginger!
3) Don't wear a lot of makeup (or be prepared to remove it all!)
In order to assess your skin well, your dermatologist needs to be able to see it clearly. Layers of make-up can hide your true skin texture and complexion. A fresh face is best when seeing your dermatologist.
4) Plan in advance
Procedures like fillers may require some downtime due to possible bruising and swelling after treatment. It may take several days to weeks for the filler to fully settle and provide a natural appearance. So, if you have an important event such as a wedding or birthday approaching, it’s best to schedule a visit with your dermatologist at least 4-6 weeks prior to the event!
6) Be realistic
It's hard not to see celebrities and influencers on social media who have glamorous filters on looking flawless and perfect! Just remember that this is not reality! And while fillers can be a great way to plump up lips, cheeks, temples, and tear troughs, one syringe is not enough to cure all your facial woes, and conversely, to make you look overdone and blown up. Before having fillers, make sure you discuss with your dermatologist your treatment goals and are clear what a single syringe of filler can, and can't do for you.
So there you have it - the top tips for preparing for your injectable visit! Remember, while these treatments can be a fantastic way to enhance your look, they do require careful consideration and preparation. Take a deep breath, relax, and let the injectables work their magic - you're in good hands!
