Getting Your Glow Up For Your Big Day-wedding ready skin dos and don'ts

Tan lines, overdone filler, and bruising – these are the last things a bride needs to deal with! So, repeat after me: "I will not get a cosmetic treatment less than 1 month before my wedding!" Got it? Good.

For many people, their wedding is one of the most important days of their lives culminating after weeks, months, even over a year of planning. And this can be stressful. I totally get it. You want to look and feel your absolute best as you celebrate this memorable occasion, but achieving that picture-perfect glow requires a little extra effort and care. So, how do you get wedding-ready skin? Let’s dive in!

6-8 Months Out

Six months might feel like a long way off from your big day, but it's the perfect time to develop some healthy skincare habits. Reflect on what you most want for your skin and appearance on your wedding day. Seeking guidance from a trusted dermatologist will help you determine the right skincare routine and treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. If you're a low key no makeup gal, no need to change who you are for your big day unless you want to!

  • If you're not already on a retinol/retinoid, now would be a good time to start. Remember, patience is key as results may take a few months to show up!
  • Address any acne or rosacea concerns now with treatments from your dermatologist. Make sure to give treatments the time they need to work their magic.
  • Establish a healthy skincare routine with a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and of course, don't forget the holy grail: sunscreen!
  • Thinking about laser hair removal? Start now to sync up with your hair growth cycle. You'll need a few sessions spaced out every 4 to 6 weeks for best results.
  • Eat well and get moving now for that healthy glow. Crash diets are a no-go—they'll leave you feeling drained and your skin looking lackluster.
  • And if you're considering fat removal treatments, like liposuction or CoolSculpting, now's the time. But be patient—results take time to show up.

Pro tip: If you're new to neuromodulators, try them out now to see if you like the results and ensure it's the look you desire!

2-3 Months Out

  • Check back in with your dermatologist to make sure your skin is showing improvement and to address any other concerns you have. Now is a great time to use filler or biostimulant products as the results will last and often it takes time to settle in.
  • Schedule medium-depth peels or intense laser treatments during this period, allowing ample time for your skin to heal and any post-treatment inflammation or redness to go down.

1 Month – 6 Weeks Out

As you get closer to 1 month or 6 weeks before your big day, it's time for those final touches on your skin. Plan a visit to your dermatologist for a chemical peel or a lighter laser treatment to make your skin glow. If you're considering neuromodulators like Botox, now's a good time to try them as any bruising will have time to fade before your event. Make sure to take care of yourself by getting enough rest, sleep, and water. Avoid natural tanning to prevent tan lines - go for a sunless tanner instead. And be careful at your bachelorette party to avoid sneaky tan lines or sunburns - remind your bridal party to watch out too!

Day of the Wedding or Event

Start your day with a gentle cleanser and a lightweight moisturizer. Avoid heavy products that may interfere with makeup application. If you're working with a professional makeup artist, make sure they understand your desired look! Now that you have gorgeous and healthy skin, don't hide it under a lot of makeup. Instead let your skin stand out; you worked hard for this glow up! Enjoy your special day, and remember that a relaxed mind and confident smile contribute to your overall glow! It’s just one day in the hopefully many days you’ll have together as partners in life.

What about the grooms? Many soon-to-be grooms are eager to be part of the wedding planning fun and also want to shine on the big day. The same goes for everyone, regardless of gender! Keep it simple with skincare, avoiding trying out new treatments or products right before the wedding, and just enjoy the journey.

And let's not forget about the moms! Mothers of the bride or groom are just as excited to look their best on their child's special day. For more mature ladies, prepping might involve more serious procedures like surgeries or extensive laser treatments or peels. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to recover, letting any swelling subside and redness settle before the big day arrives.

But hey, let's keep it real - even with all the prep in the world, life can throw a curveball or two your way. So, embrace the unexpected, roll with the punches, and savor every moment of your special day, no matter what comes your way!
